free pro blog editor, moving image archive, audiovisual wiki, open-source film making

here a couple of tools and sites for your own media revolution:

performancing: free pro blog editor as a firefox extension

since i started using wordpress more frequently i got very frustrated with the built-in blog editor. it might be an os x specific problem, but to me the wordpress blog editor seems very buggy. finally i found what i was looking for: a simple, powerful wysiwyg blog editor that “just works”: http://performancing.com/firefox

from their site:

    * Full WYSIWYG and source editing
    * Save as Notes
    * Add all your various blog accounts
    * Technorati Support
    * Delicious integration
    * Trackback support
    * Draft support
    * Ping support
    * Image upload and FTP
    * Metrics stats

for more have a look at the performancing for firefox tour.

internet archive: moving image archive

the moving images section at the internet archive is a great resource for everyone who has to do with moving images. you can upload your own shorts or feature lengths works to the open source movie section or download and watch old (and often public domain) movies at the movies section (e.g. early chaplin, hitchcock or hawks movies).

make sure to understand the licenses on the individual movie’s pages if you plan to reuse the footage…

audiovisual wiki

a pretty complete introduction to all things audio/video and online offers the audiovisual p2p wiki (that i help writing/maintain):

open-source film making

i recently wrote a four part series about open-source storytelling/film making – maybe this is of interest to some of you:

part 1, part 2, part 3, part 4

Adobe Production Suite come back for Mac

premierePClook

It was a kind of weird situation any way. Adobe had Acrobat, Flash, After Effects etc all running on mac OS X but no Adobe Premiere Pro. Adobe has now announced that they will be returning to the Mac platform!

What are the consequences for FCP. My guess is that it won´t be much serious competition for FCP. These days FCP has become a accepted standard alongside Avid. Premiere pro although undoubtedly an excellent program (haven´t used it since version 4!) still has not been accepted as an industry standard.

So we will have Premiere Pro running on both Macs and PC by mid 2007. It will take another 2 too 3 years before FCP will be running on a PC. And imagine that FCP were to get much more expensive in the near future.

Like for example they brought out a FCP Extreme with some nuts and bolts integrated in one form or the other, from old war horses like Shake and Final Touch HD.

Could this be a window of opportunity for Adobe and what about Linux which should also become a serious contender as a platform for video editing in the coming years!
