Gone are the days of hype when we as users we´re told how much more effectively we could work with the FCP Studio Package´s, enriched feature set . A case in point being two years ago. Back then, the introduction of Multi-cam editing was a welcome edition too FCP. In Berlin there was a large crowded Apple event in Prenzlauerberg. Multi Camera editing was presented along side a plethora of other new features. However, the emphasis was very much on the fact that one could watch and edit up to 128 video tracks simultaneously. Rather than considering why this was a welcome new addition!
Last Wednesday, the 6th of March all the parameters got changed. A whole new concept for Apple in Germany. The venue the Kalkscheune, in Berlin. Where Apple did it´s users proud.

Firstly a project was presented as an example of what the various tools from Apple are capable of doing. The project involved the promotion of a band. Areas covered included the selection of promo photos for the band, (Aperture), the editing and mixing of the bands music (Logic), and the editing and output of their music video for the web, using FCP.
Secondly parallel to the above presentations there were workshops. With ample chances to get hands on experience with Aperture, Logic and FCP. Real life tips and tricks were presented with a video projector and users were guided through some simple work flows. Most importantly of all it was possible, to implement newly gained knowledge, directly, on the computers provided. Help was on hand from Apple personnel for those who ran into difficulties.
Thirdly as usual the various vendors were there to answer questions. I didn´t get a chance to talk to any of them directly but I can imagine that they were also happier with this set up. I know that in the past it was problematic for them with lots of sitting around during bloated presentations, followed by brief onslaughts from the stressed event visitors. Because of the pick and mix nature of this event it was easier to slip out of a presentation or work shop to talk to the vendors, off side, so to speak.
All in all, very down to earth stuff. Presented in a relaxed and informative manner. With the emphasis on what the various tools are capable of doing with respect to a relatively simple and realistic project. Plenty of time to get a feel for the capabilities of the tools presented and support from Apple. In a word. Bravo!
So this time around it´s all going to be a little bit different. Again!
There will be no formal BFCPUG meeting as such.
Rather a BFCPUG day trip with an informal gathering afterwards.
The plan is to pay a visit the apple event in Berlin on the first Tuesday of March.

The Apple program is as follows :
15:15 Schnupper-Workshop Fotografie – Aperture
17:00 Schnupper-Workshop Audio – Logic
19:00 Schnupper-Workshop Video – Final Cut Studio

Register using the above link. And turn up if and when you can.
After hours BFCPUG gathering!
There will be an informal gathering in the Schwarzwaldstübchen.
On the corner of Tucholskystr. and Linienstr.
From 21:30 onwards.
Here the plan is to drink beer, possibly eat something and to attempt talking about things that don´t necessarily have anything to do we computers or film making.
If you definitely want to meet in the bar afterwards, please let Paul know before Monday evening, so he can reserve a table.
***Beware Schwarzwaldstübchen is usually very, very full.***
