Video Editing Preset: Quick Start Tutorial
With the recent release of Blender 2.46 the Blender Video Sequence Editor (VSE) was also updated (for a list with all new features see here) – the following Quick Start tutorial now shows the very basics needed to quickly get started with the Blender VSE:
*link updated* (v0.1.1, 15th November 2008)
1) Download the Video Editing Preset .blend – Quick Start tutorial included (works without extra video files!)
2) Download Blender (in case you don’t have the latest Blender 2.46)
3) Double-click the .blend

While this is not Final Cut Pro the Blender VSE does have some unique features that no other NLE currently can offer – be it a commercial and closed-source solution or one of the other free and open-source NLEs: Blender works under freeBSD, Linux, OS X, Solaris and Windows – and so does the Blender VSE. But it gets even better: the same .blend file can be opened and edited on any of these platforms – this is de facto platform independent non-linear video editing! If I am not mistaken this is also an industry first. Just think of the possibilities… And since Blender is licensed under the GPL a company could even hire a programmer and easily implement their own features…
For more information, including some current limitations and workarounds, see the Blender Wiki: Using VSE.
